Unpacking the Private/Private Distinction
When thinking about the ways of life. I enjoy viewing it with my own eyes. With out opinions or information that is thrown at me. I rather learn and view everything on my own. Just being able to walk down the street and looking at the building that I walk by in the city, or the people that are playing in the park. I truly wonder if people are doing the exact same thing as I do. If people look at me and question or wonder why from viewing my own actions. A great place to notice about people watching is when people are relaxing and drinking a cup of coffee and their local coffee shop or Starbucks. There is not really much to do while you sit and drink your cup of coffee so lots of people watching happens in these locations. Even though people don’t think that they are being watched. Everywhere they go in a public setting there actions are probably being noticed.
Unpacking Public Space: What is it? How do you document it?
Many people choose to just go on a walk on a daily basis. A lot of the time people view the spaces that are around them from completely different angles. If they venture from there home town there is always something in spaces that they have never noticed before and the detail that the person has would have of the place would grow more and more. Though most of the time when people viewing the space, it is a location that they have never been to before. In a public space through out the city there is always a derive. A derive is an experiential passage through a space. This is always very important when it comes to the human eye. If it is not something that interested a human than the location or space would never truly be used for its proper propose. The derive of the space must be extremely important as well as the look of it as well. Many people try to look at the big picture like a city but just viewing multiple locations throughout the city will help give anyone a grand picture of the history and importance of the city. Many obverses don’t usually follow along with that at all. A human is too hard to control their actions so they will venture wherever they please throughout the city. This will not allow them to have a big picture of the city and its beauty. The beauty that observer’s loss a lot of the time is that they just goes to the highlights such as museums. Rather people should go to the small inlets or slices through out the city, which many people don’t know about like the “Little Italy’s” and the “Chinatowns” around the world.

Public Space as Ideal Form / Grid / Ubiquitous
In regards to a living in a Utopia, it seems to be impossible to have a city that is extremely prefect for every class. The only way that this idea could truly be possible would be to have no class and well designed locations through out the city itself. Even if this proposal were even remotely possible, the words total design would have to come up in conversation. We are in the 21st-century where cities have already been created. There aren’t going to be cities that just come up from the ground that is prefect for every single person to live in. Instead we have to deal with the Chicago’s, New York’s, and London’s, of the world that already exist. In one of these major cities the ideas of total design would be a waste of time as well as generations of life. To rebuilt a city from the ground up would take years. The people that would be in charge of these proposals for this city would be long gone before the rest of the world would see their “child”.
This idea of a Utopia would be an amazing Idea if this could actually be possible the city would inhabitable for about 100 years. With Millions of people having to live in trailer parks needing new jobs. If one city were being “totally rebuilt” the whole area would be completely barren in a few years. People would leave to find new residence around another city. People need cities in order to survive these days. There are truly no jobs that take place outside of the city. The only reason why communities form outside the city is to be close enough to their job though outside of the busy city life.

Public Space as City Organizer
Living in Boston for over two years has changed my view from a small farm town to a large city standpoint. Since the move there has been a whole new outlook on the public realm. Being able to navigate the city, learning and figuring places to go where people gather which is completely different than a farm town full of fields, rather than a city the contains parks and seating arrangement. Some of them are well known to all as a public park such as the Boston Commons. Able to be found on your average GPS system. When venturing through the city every public place is a jewel waiting to be found. Tons of places are found by word of mouth and not by your every day road map. These public spaces may not even seem to be one, but any way you can leave the everyday city life and go to your relaxing location. Everyone’s special relaxing place can be different to their own nature. Being able to tone out the busy city life is something that every city dweller would lover to do. Wither it be during your lunch break at work or needing a nice place to run to after a busy school day public places are everywhere around us. My hidden gem is a quiet place on the Northeastern campus that many people don’t know of. Tucked behind multiple dorm buildings a small volleyball court. Away from the public persona, the mass population does not know this location. It is not just a volleyball court it’s a place to work and relax during my free time as well as to socialize. Don’t rely on technologies to get around. Rather use your own two feet and discover these hidden gems that are located all around us.
